My background includes world travel, 24 years living in Europe (Switzerland, France, England, Italy), training in both German and English classical theatre, and work at the United Nations. I hold two degrees from the University of Cambridge and a diploma from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

I am multilingual, with fluency in several European languages, and an interest in non-Indo-European ones, including Chinese, Japanese, and Cherokee (current). A life-long love of learning (& teaching) has left me with an unusually broad exposure to world literature, history, art, the classical world, and with my Native roots, also to indigenous culture. My rigorous training at the University of Cambridge impressed me with habits of critical thinking and intellectual curiosity that I believe I can pass on successfully to my students. My approach to learning and teaching is not one of multiple choice answers, but one of that time-honored approach, currently half-forgotten it seems, of awakening original thinking and a desire for exploration in the student’s mind, as I was taught to do by the best. My teaching experience includes teaching all four years of high school French at MSAD 3 Maine Public School System, as well as a school year of tutoring and substitute teaching for three Maine public school districts, K-12. That experience gave me confidence that I can win over 'hearts and minds' in even the most challenging situations, and build excellent rapport with students of all ages, including in certain cases 'special ed', as well as the 'gifted and talented' (sometimes they are one and the same I find!).
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy, but will make every effort to be flexible with make-up classes. I will travel within a 50 mile radius of my home (I will consider the greater Portland and Bangor areas) but also offer online sessions, which allows me to work nation-wide. My theatre training and experience includes LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) one of the three and co-equal leading acting schools at the time in England, along with RADA (Royal Academy) and Central. I played a series of leading roles in Shakespeare, Jacobean and Restoration dramas at Cambridge, at The ADC Theatre (formerly Footlights) as well as at various dramatic societies of the colleges of Cambridge and was favorably reviewed by the Guardian and the Independent. I was also trained in the German Classical theatre by leading members of the famed per-war Berliner Schaubuene and the Schauspielhaus Zuerich to which those great lights of the German theatre later fled and finally returned after the war to successfully revive the German theatrical culture. I was trained in speech, accents, dance, stage fighting, voice and period styles to name a few. My academic studies at Cambridge added depth and critical scholarship to my appreciation of the great classics of dramatic literature.My Shakespeare studies were with Anne Barton (wife of John Barton who shared her approach and brought it to the RSC at that time) and Eric P. Griffiths of Trinity College.

I was trained in the German classical theatre from age 12-18 with some of the greats of the Berliner Schaubühne at the Schauspielhaus Zürich; after that I moved to London to LAMDA London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). I also have a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Cambridge. I speak French, Swiss German dialect like a native, and have studied several other languages into the intermediate to advanced levels including Italian, Middle High German, Anglo-Saxon, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese and I am an advanced beginner in Cherokee, so am very familiar with both language learning and teaching in range of language groups.
