BEATTIE, Robert William -0605941 BIZJAK(LANGFORD), Karen Anne April 6,1943 October 1. 1, 2012 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of our Mother Karen Anne Bizjak. She passed away peacefully at her home in Chilliwack, B.C.

at the age of 69. She was survived by her two children Dan(Casey) Morley, Lisa (Jeff) Holitzki three grandchildren Jesse, Sarah and Quintan. Mum(Nana) was a kind hearted, fun loving, quick witted beautiful lady who was always there to lend a ear to listen or to voice her thoughts on advice. She loved her 40 years of hairdressing at the Vancouver Hotel, Sharp Shooters, Micheals and Classic Beauty where she retired. She will be dearly missed by many and never forgotten.

Bob was born on the homestead in Bonnyville, Alberta, September 9, 1926 to George and Esther Beattie.

He died gently on September 26, 2012. surrounded by people who loved him. Predeceased by his parents and his sister Luella; survived by his siblings Glen, Lois and Rene, and his first wife Lorraine. Deeply missed by soulmate Lilian, her daughter Colette, and his loving children Wendy (Mark) and Terry (Terry Lynn). Grandpa Bob was adored by Meghan, Patrick, Anna, Simon, Ryan and Tamara as well as Michelle and her children, Sierra, Nathan and Alexis.

He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and hearing about their lives and views. Bob considered himself very fortunate to have immensely enjoyed his career as a chiropractor. Contributing to community was important to him. Whatever group or organization he was involved with, he would inevitably take on a leadership role. He loved people and was loved in return.

We will miss him. May he rest in peace. It was his wish that there be no service. A family gathering will be held at a later time. We are grateful for the care given by Dr.

Chan and nurses Wendy, Tania, Anna, Raha and Biljiana at the Royal Columbian Hospital. -0605941 On Monday, September 24, Eileen passed away peacefully after a graceful, courageous and dignified battle with cancer in Richmond, B.C. Eileen was born in the Naval Hospital in San Diego California to parents Doreen Parkhill McDougal Botterell (2009) and Lt. Col. David Stockton McDougal (USMC) (1945), and grew up in Oakville, Ontario with four brothers and a loving and much loved stepfather, John A.

Botterell (1993). Eileen is survived and will be missed greatly by daughter Jennifer Browne, brothers David S. McDougal (Patricia) and John Botterell (Stephanie), and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Brian Botterell (2011) and Frank Botterell (2011). Eileen was a long time member of the Shaughnessy Golf and Tennis Club, where she spent many evenings playing tennis, and will be missed by the Shaughnessy Bridge Club ladies.

Eileen was a master bridge player. Not one to be satisfied by merely playing tennis, Eileen worked hard to become a well respected tennis official, spending many years officiating (and eventually running), the annual Stanley Park Open, and officiated at many North American tournaments, including the Davis Cup and the U.S. Open. Eileen was a bon vivant who was a great dancer, loved a glass of wine and an afternoon spent at a casino playing slot machines. She had a great sense of humour and sharp wit, and travelled the world, the highlights of such destinations including China, Egypt, Israel and South Africa with her mother, and a river tour of Europe with her daughter.

The family would like to extend thanks to the Richmond Palliative Hospice Team, especially Dr. Quelch and Serena Chee, for their expert and sensitive care. Also special thanks to great friends Marlene Mowat and Brenda Jones, for assisting Eileen's daughter with care giving in her final months. -C605793 -C606078 BROWNE, Eileen Margaret (McDougal) March 14,1945 September 24,2012 BOCKING, Richard C. 1931-2012 Richard C. Bocking passed away on September 28, 2012, at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. A wonderful and caring husband for Winnifred Marie for sixty years, a devoted father for his six sons, and gifted advocate environment and for social justice, Richard (Dick) will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Richard was born in Port Arthur in 1931, the son of Charles and Lisle Bocking, and brother of James and Joyce.

He and Winnifred met in high school, when they began a life-long partnership that continued throughout his studies in agriculture at the University of Manitoba, their marriage in 1953, and a lifetime of shared adventure and devotion. They raised their sons Stony Plain, North Vancouver, Quebec, and Italy, before settling in 1988 in Victoria, where they created a seashore idyll, the site of countless gatherings and celebrations cherished in memory by their family, especially their many grandchildren. Throughout his career as an agricultural extension agent, a documentary filmmaker for the CBC, and an author, Richard applied his energy, eloquence, and knowledge to the defence of Canada's environment, the pursuit of social justice, and appreciation for music and the arts, always guided by his determined vision of a just and independent Canada. Richard's life memory will be forever celebrated by Winnifred, by their sons Michael, Douglas, James, Christopher, Stephen, and Patrick; by their daughters-in-law Kelly, Rose, Tina, Diane, Barbara and Elaine; their beloved grandchildren, Michelle, Paul, David, Jennifer, Natalie. Alexandra, Alyssa, Emma, Natasha, Kevin, Christine, Kimberly and Adam; their greatgrandchild Jessa; and by everyone who knew him.

C603517 BONNELL, Ronald Ritchie, M.D., C.M. Of Vancouver, British Columbia. It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ronald Ritchie Bonnell, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle on September 26, 2012 in his 95th year.

Born in Victoria, B.C., the youngest child of the late Francis Simeon Bonnell and Jessie MacLean Bonnell, he was pre-deceased by his sister and brother, Mrs. Jean Wright and Dr. Frederick Bonnell and by his life-long friend lan MacDonald Grant. He is survived by: his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara (nee Irwin); their children Kenneth (Sandra), Gregory (Bonnie), Judy (Ryan) and Joanne (Mark); grandchildren Tina, Crystal, Michael, Christopher, Bradley, Alexander and six great-grandchildren. He grew up in Victoria, and attended Victoria College, the University of British Columbia and Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario where he graduated in Medicine.

He interrupted his medical studies during the war to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force in New Brunswick, Ontario and Vancouver. He spoke fondly of meeting Barbara when they were both in uniform and of their early courtship. They were married at Trail, B.C. in 1947. His studies were put on hold again when he contracted tuberculosis and spent 18 months in the sanatorium.

He survived and persevered to graduate in 1951, interning at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria where he and Barbara started their family. He took his residency in radiology at Vancouver General Hospital (following his brother into that field) and was invited to join a new partnership in Vancouver headed by Dr. Hugh Brooke until his retirement in 1983 as senior partner. He was always dedicated to and interested in his field. Many supper table conversations included details of that day's interesting cases.

He retired from medicine to enjoy, his various pastimes, his family and especially more time at his cottage at Shawnigan Lake, renewing his treasured friendship with lan Grant who had also retired there. He loved seeing friends, fishing, working in the woods, reading and playing Scrabble. He was a founding member of the Arbutus Club in Vancouver where he, Barbara and the family spent many happy years. Grateful thanks from the family go to the staff at South Granville Park Lodge and the kind and caring staff of the Vancouver General Hospital Acute Care Ward (10th floor). A memorial service will be held on November 8, 8: 2012 at 1pm at St.

Thursday, of Kerrisdale, 2490 West 37th Vancouver BC. A celebration of his life will be held after the service at the Arbutus Club, 2001 Nanton Vancouver BC. BROWN, Barry Robert November 13, 1944 September 22, 2012 Dear Barry, sweet, gentle, generous and kind, passed away while at St. Paul's Hospital. He fought the good fight for four months.

He was a lover of the Arts and History excelled at drawing, painting abstracts, singing and song writing. He was a gifted guitarist and wrote many songs, even up until the time he could not anymore. He was a great poet, his knowledge of history was boundless. His love for Jesus was very strong and he attended many Bible classes. Goodbye to my best friend, lover and Honey Bun.

Burley grew up in Empress, Alberta and served in the navy during WWII. Inspired by the coast of BC, he attended Forestry at UBC; graduated in 1951 and began a lifetime career at B.C.

Forest Products. Burley married Kay MacFarlane in 1950, and this past year they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. They enjoyed their retirement years travelling and spending winters in Maui. Burley was a skilled craftsman, building a summer home in 1963, and over many years creating beautiful tables, clocks and furniture from the wood he loved. He appreciated the beauty of this world and always enjoyed being in nature.

He was an avid fisherman and gardener for many years. Burley loved music, and from childhood to the end of his life, played 'old-time' prairie tunes on his violin. Burley is lovingly remembered by Kay, his four children, Bev, Paula, Rob; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. As a child she moved with her mother to White Rock BC where she completed highschool. She went on to UBC for her BA ('35) in English, French and History, professional year ('36) in Education and MA ('39) in English (thesis on Thomas Hardy).

At her 60th UBC class reunion Kaye expressed feelings of respect and affection for Profs Larsen, Evans, Macinnes, Soward, Sedgewick, Sage, Cook Bollert and Mme Darlington. Before taking up graduate studies in Post War Paris, Kaye taught at Semiahmoo Secondary in Surrey BC from 1937-47. Her doctoral thesis on John Morley was accepted in 1951 and she returned to UBC where she was in charge of the Women's Residence 1950-54 and Assistant Dean of Women 1959-62. In 1969, Kaye was promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of French and Senior Faculty Advisor in the Faculty of Arts and served in these roles until she retired in 1980. A women's service award with UBC Athletics is named for her.

A textbook case against mandatory retirement, Kaye returned to high school teaching at Little Flower Academy 1981-88; after retiring from LFA, Kaye became an accomplished painter of watercolours; her works were shown at venues such as "Artists in our she enjoyed volunteering with neighbourhood agencies and was active with UBC Retired Faculty. Nouvelles du the anthology of Quebec literature Kaye co-edited with Mme McBride went into its 5th edition with Prentice-Hall in 1995 more than a decade after she left UBC. Kaye spent her last three years happily at Crofton Manor Care Centre and was grateful for the assistance she received from staff. Born October 8th, 1924 Mavis grew up in Bournemouth, England where she trained as a dancer under Madame Rambert. In 1944, she met John, an RCAF flying officer. In 1947, she immigrated to Canada with her mother Gladys and Sybil and married John a year later. Mavis raised her four children in West Vancouver and summered in Granthams and Halfmoon Bay. Mavis dedicated her life to her husband, children and thirteen grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her beautiful poise and grace. She had a passion for gardening, always walked the seawall, volunteered in the community, and had a love for animals. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and palliative care nurses for their loving care. A celebration of Mavis' life will be held on Monday, October 8th at home. FRASER, Gloria Lorraine (nee Martinson) July 29,1926 September 27,2012 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Fraser. Gloria was predeceased by her husband Don and brother Fred. She is survived by her son Terry Brown (Carol); grandchildren Kevin Brown (Yvonne) and Lisa Ellis (Rod), children Andrew, Mathew, Jeffrey Brown; sister-in-law Falk and nephew Barry Martinson. She was born in Calgary and raised in Vancouver.

With Don she had a wonderful life filled with mountains, forests, wildlife and pristine wilderness. This led to their operation of Lakeshore Pet Boarding where she provided care for pets and wild animals. In retirement, Gloria and Don came to live in Kamloops where they worked tirelessly to improve the plight of animals who were mistreated or in need. She became SPCA branch vice-president; was a founding member of the interior BC Sled Dog Association and she wrote the weekly newspaper column, "Animal She loved music and dancing; was involved in the Kamloops Ballroom Dance Vaudeville Society; founded the tap dancing group "The Happy Tappers" and the Kamloops Swing and Jazz Society. Teaching dance and her love of music delighted her the most.

Thank you to all the care aides at High Country Health Care who made it possible for Gloria to remain in her home as she desired. Gloria was a loving mother, a dear friend and a source of strength for all whose lives she touched. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home October 13, 12 5 pm. James Bernard May 24th, 1921 -Oct. 2nd, 2012 Jim passed away peacefully at home, 7 yrs after the passing of his beloved wife Maggie. He is survived by his seven children and 12 grandchildren: Ann Bird (Clive), Sarah Jane, Geoff (Kayla), Marianne, Virginia; Michael (Gail); Peter; Jane Bradner (Stephen), Colin (Aleeza), Meghan, Shannon; Tim; Stephen (Jenn), Russell, Claire, Sean, Declan; Richard, Dylan. Jim received his undergraduate degree from the University of Saskatchewan and his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1945. After a successful family practice on the North Shore, Jim specialized in radiology in 1963 and joined the x-ray group 1966.

He was very devoted to his patients and practice. He retired at 65 yrs to family and home life. The family is forever grateful to Dr. Leon Bard and caregivers Abelle, Ricky and Phil. Prayers will take place on Thursday, Oct.

11th at 5:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 12th, 2012 at 12:00 noon. Both will take place at St. Anthony's Parish, 2347 Inglewood Avenue, West Vancouver.

HOLLYBURN FUNERAL HOME MEMORIAL 604-922-1221 GISEL, Sharon Diane November 3, 1940 September 29, 2012 Diane Gisel passed peacefully in her sleep at home in North Vancouver. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Grant, her sons Gary (Maggie) and Brian (Dahl) and four grandchildren (Jami, Sean, Mia and Julia) as well as her sister Donna and brother Dale. Born in Prince Albert, SK to Murdoch and Thelma Robertson the family relocated to Duncan, BC in 1949. After graduating from Cowichan High School, Diane attended the University of British Columbia where she graduated with honors. After graduation Diane studied at McGill University returning to take a teaching position at the University of Victoria.

She met and married her husband Grant in 1966 and moved to North Vancouver to raise their two boys Gary and Brian. As her boys grew up Diane took on new challenges, training herself as a computer programmer and IT project manager. As a private contractor she worked for many years with Sierra Systems Consultants for a wide variety of clients. Eventually retiring, but never slowing down, Diane enjoyed an active life in her later years. She gave much of her time to the UBC Botanical Garden as a a "Friend of the Garden," and spent an equals amount of time in her own, ever expanding home garden.

She was also an active globetrotter and, along with Grant, traveled extensively around the world. As with all grandmothers, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren Diane was a beloved wife, sister, mother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all.
